Previous West Indies all-rounder Simmons named Afghan mentor
Previous West Indies all-rounder Phil Simmons has been designated mentor of Afghanistan as the nation gets ready for its first Test coordinate, it was reported Sunday.
The war-torn country was granted Test status in June, alongside Ireland.
The arrangement was reported on Twitter by the Afghanistan Cricket Board.
The previous opening batsman and medium-quick bowler, who resigned in 2002, had past training spells with Zimbabwe, Ireland and the West Indies.
Simmons will now join the Afghanistan squad in Dubai as it plans for a restricted overs arrangement against Zimbabwe in Sharjah in February.
Afghanistan will play their first Test coordinate against India, where they play the lion's share of their home amusements, in spite of the fact that a date still can't seem to be reported.
They are viewed as having a promising future with a gifted playing assault drove by 19-year-old Rashid Khan.
Khan has created eye-getting exhibitions on the planet's best T20 alliances, most as of late with a man-of-the-coordinate show on his Big Bash make a big appearance for the Adelaide Strikers.
"I play cricket to convey triumphs for my nation and to make Afghanistan glad on the world stage," he told AFP in a meeting in October.
